Definition:

art. 226 of Labor Code imposes on employer two important duties associated to risk assessment:

  • duty to assess and document the risk connected with performed work, as well as duty to use preventive measures necessary to reduce the risk,
  • duty to inform employees about the occupational risk, associated with performed work, and about the principle of protection against hazards.

Occupational risk is a probability of adverse events associated with work, resulting in a loss, in particular the occurrence of adverse health among the employees due to occupational hazards in the working environment or the way the work is being performed.

Risk assessment is not only to estimate the probability of adverse events, but also to assess the amount of probable damage, and losses associated with the loss of human life or health.

The proper performance of risk assessment is intended to:

  • check, if all the hazards at workplace has been properly identified and weather the risk associated with them is known,
  • demonstrate, if the personal protection are adequate to the hazards resulting from the analysis,
  • accomplish the right choice of equipment, materials and organization of the work,
  • prioritize the actions seeking to eliminate and restrict the occupational risk on individual positions,
  • provide continuous improvement of health&safety condition.

The employer is obligated to perform the risk assessment or update it, every time when:

  • create a new workplace,
  • accident happened,
  • there has been changes in work process or among the workplace,
  • changes has been done according to applicable requirements,
  • employer decided that protection that are used are ineffective or inappropriate according to new information/work conditions, or plan to run the changes in the scope of the protective measures,
  • plans to launch a new machine or line.
